Just Intonation, Part 9: A Few Links
If you know of any good resources that should be added to this page, or if you find a broken link here, please let me know.
- Harmonic Experience by W. A. Mathieu (Inner Traditions, Rochester, VT, 1997). This book is both deep and very readable. I recommend it highly.
- The Just Intonation Network is a clearing-house for information on just intonation. Run by composer David Doty, the Network also publishes a semi-regular magazine called 1/1.
- Just Intonation Explained has a good tutorial article on the mathematics of just intonation. I'm not 100% convinced by author Kyle Gann's preference for describing just intervals in terms of equal-tempered cents, but in the just intonation community, everybody gets to do it their own way.
- Key Characteristics and Pitch Sets is a survey of some fairly advanced tunings by composer Bill Alves.
- Harmonic Theory and Just Intonation has some good material, but be patient: The pages load slowly because of Dante Rosati's fondness for large graphics.
